Tuesday Testimonials

Mikayla Calhoun

Congratulations to new agent Mikayla Calhoun on her early success! Mikayla has received over $15,500 in bank deposits within her first 14 days with FFL! Continue reading below to learn more about her quick start.

Q: What were you doing for work prior to getting started with FFL?

A: I had been working as a captive insurance agent for the past 5 ½ years, but I didn’t have access to a lead program and had to rely on primarily cold calling.

Q: How were you introduced to FFL?

A: My upline Dave and I were working at the same company before he joined FFL. I started seeing him post about having access to leads as well as diverse products. Those were my main issues with my prior company so I decided it was finally time to make a switch.

Q: What did your initial training look like and how long did it take for you to start dialing?

A: Contracting with the carriers took some time so I took advantage of that and immersed myself in our sales training. My first week I was able to go through a boot camp and purchased leads on Wednesday. I bought $490 worth of the Happy Agent Leads which are the internet final expense leads. Then on Friday I was approved by Americo and a couple other carriers so I booked appointments that same night for Saturday morning.

Q: How did your first appointments go?

A: I’m typically a very “Type A” person who likes to plan and have everything in order. But I was also very money motivated because we had used the last of our savings on leads and had bills that were due in only a week. Walking into my first appointment I only felt about 30% prepared. I knew I was going to have to call Dave from the home a few times. I ended up closing all of my appointments and learned so much from that experience. Sometimes you just have to throw yourself into the fire when learning something new so I’m glad I had so much pressure because if I didn’t I probably would have taken a lot longer to get going.

Q: What are your goals for 2020?

A: My husband Sold about $150,000 in supplemental insurance last year, they paid him about $52,000 for that amount of activity because of the difference in commission levels. By January 1st I’d like to make more than $52,000 just to prove that I can beat those numbers in just a few months! He just got licensed this week so that he can start selling life as well, and he’s been so helpful with handling the kids so that I can go out into the field.

Q: What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to new agents looking to have the same type of quick success as you?
A: I’d say to lay down your pride, humble yourself and don’t be afraid to fail forward. You have to fall on your face and mess up to really learn, and you’ll never have success if you’re too afraid of that initial failure.

Ryan Gilley

Congratulations to Ryan Gilley on his quick and successful transition into the insurance industry! Ryan went full time after issuing $7,000 in his first few days in the field. He has also hired 4 licensed agents, has 4 in pre-licensing, and is on track to have 15 writing agents by the end of the month! Continue reading below to learn more about Ryan’s journey with FFL:

Q: What were you doing for work prior to getting started with FFL?

A: I was working in law enforcement for 2 years, and prior to that I served in the Army for 10 years as a sniper.

Q: How did you transition from the military and law enforcement to selling insurance?

A: They may seem different but you’re actively helping people in both fields of work. I enjoy being able to find out what my clients need and provide them with coverage in case a tragedy were to occur.

Q: You started out on a part time basis, why did you decide to go full time?

A: My initial plan was just to sell insurance on a part time basis. But I knew that my work schedule would conflict with the schedule of my clients which could make things difficult. I am someone who likes to give 100% to everything that I do. After my first week of success, my wife and I discussed it and decided the best choice for our family was to go full time with FFL.

Q: Even though you’re new I see that you’ve already started building an agency. What made you decide to do that so quickly?
A: Well first it’s because Dave W. is an awesome leader. I then had the opportunity to meet Shawn Meaike as well as some of FFL’s top agents. I heard someone say at a boot camp how they didn’t see the need to try and reconfigure the FFL business model because he had already seen its results. I agreed with that thinking so I decided to start building an agency like I saw other top agents doing. I knew that if I did that right away I’d be setting myself up for success down the road. A couple of the agents I’ve hired are already looking to start hiring for themselves. I expect to have around 15 writing agents by the end of the month and the plan is just to continue to grow from there.

Alison Di Pasqua

Alison started with FFL in 2020 on a part time basis. In a short amount of time she’s been able to hit Hall of Fame status and has built an agency that is issuing over $300,000. Continue reading below to learn more about her first year with FFL:

Q: What were you doing for work prior to getting started with FFL?

A: I was and still am running my own dietician business. I didn’t have any sales or insurance experience prior to starting with FFL.

Q: Why did you decide to get started in the insurance industry?

A: I’ve always believed in multiple streams of income and had just had my daughter. A friend of mine was posting about it online and so I decided to get licensed after reading FFL’s business model. I saw the potential and I really wanted to build another business.

Q: With no prior sales experience, what was the learning curve like for you?

A: I didn’t know anything about insurance so I just made sure to use all of the resources that were available to me. I made sure to call my upline whenever I got in the home as well as other top agents. I think the most important thing is to care about people, which is something I’ve had to learn in my Dietician business. The client can tell whether or not you’re putting them first.

Q: Was it easy for you to start purchasing leads right away?

A: I actually thought that process was very easy because I was already accustomed to having to invest in my other business, so getting fresh leads every week wasn’t a problem for me since I knew it would pay off.

Q: What advice would you give to new agents looking to hit Hall of Fame status within their first year?

A: I would say to just jump in and make sure to care about people. It’s easy to make the process seem a lot more complicated than it really is if you overthink it but all you need to do is follow the system.

Todd Hausberger

FFL would like to highlight Vice President Todd Hausberger for this week’s testimonial! Todd started with us in August 2020 and just had his first 60 k month.

Q: When did you start working with FFL?

A: I started in August of 2020.

Q: What were you doing for work prior to finding FFL?

A: I was working at the same supplemental insurance company as Dave W. Him and a few of my other insurance friends reached out to me about FFL. There were three main things that influenced my decision to leave. The ability to have a higher compensation level, access to a real lead program, and I saw Dave’s massive growth which served as a testament to the opportunity.

Q: What was the learning curve like for you?

A: I didn’t have a ton of experience with selling life since my previous company only had one life product. I consider myself to be a student of the game and so I watched tons of podcasts and took over 70+ pages of notes at my first boot camp. That really helped me to learn the system quickly.

Q: What have you been spending on leads?

A: I spent around $1500 my first week and now I do around $2500 per week. I’m hoping to minimally issue 10k per month but the past couple months I’ve been in the 50-60k range.

Q: What has been the most difficult thing to learn?

A: The most difficult thing for me has definitely been learning to dial the phone. I come from working off of referrals and residential cold-calling but I didn’t have to spend a lot of time on the phone.

Q: How have you been able to master that challenge?

A: I used to have a virtual office but now I have a full office where I can dial out of. I also have a full time assistant that helps me set up my schedule so that I can focus more time on recruiting and building up our agency.

Q: What is your goal for 2021?

A: My goal is to hit hall of fame and to become a board member.

Q: What is your one piece of advice for new agents looking to get started?

A: My biggest piece of advice is to listen to a ton of podcasts and be a student of the game. I think people expect themselves to just get better but you have to invest into yourself with the proper education and training in order to grow.

Brandon Kitchings

Brandon issued 63k when he started with FFL in 2019 and he ended 2020 with $330,312!

Q: What were you doing for work prior to getting started with FFL?

A: I was working in the mortgage industry. I had been with my previous company for around 11 years.

Q: Why did you decide to get started in the insurance industry?

A: I wanted to make a change. I was at a point where I felt like I was making more and more money for my company yet my compensation was going down every year. I was making $15 per hour and would get some commission for extra sales.

Q: Did you try to sell on a part time basis when you first got started?

A: No I’m an “all in” or “all out” type of person. When I was initially getting started I thought that I could keep my job while studying for the licensing exam but it wasn’t working. I had a conversation with my wife and told her I’d have to leave that job to be able to really work this opportunity.

Q: How was your first week out in the field?

A: My first week out in the field was pretty bad, and that was because I wasn’t doing what I was told to do. Steven Y. told me to never buy less than 40 leads per week. I did the exact thing he told me not to do and only bought 20 leads. I’m not sure why, I think sometimes I have to touch the hot stove even If I’m told not to. So I called him, he laughed and told me how to fix it. Once I started listening and following his advice my results were a lot better.

Q: Aside from leadflow, what else did you have to adjust in order to issue over $330,000?

A: It was a full circle change in regards to my mindset and making sure I was prioritizing the important things. Always stacking the deck of leads to be in my favor. Just focusing on doing all the small things correctly.

Q: What is your goal for 2021?
A: My goal is to issue $500,000, get my team to EVP status and also help to create 3 additional VPs beneath me. That’s the really cool thing about this opportunity, being able to help others get to where they’d like to be in life while also helping your own family.

Suhail, Rangina and Sam Hamid

The Hamid’s are leading from the front and building a profitable family business! They’ve all been able to make over 6 figures individually and their agency “FFL Go-Getters” had one of their biggest production months in December 2020 issuing $791,395.58!

Q: When did you start with FFL?

A: I (Suhail) started in June of 2018 and my siblings started in April 2019.

Q: What were you doing for work prior to finding FFL?

A: I was working at Panda Express and at an insurance agency part time, Sam was working at Wendy’s and Rangina was at Target.

Q: How did you find FFL?

A: I wasn’t satisfied with my previous insurance company due to the low compensation. I got a call from Claude P. who introduced me to Shawn M. and Andrew T. and then I learned about the opportunity.

Q: Did your past insurance experience help you with getting started here?

A: There some similar practices between FFL and my prior company like purchasing leads but they really aren’t comparable at all. We have so many leads here along with some of the lowest prices in the market. My first 9 days I had around $12,000 deposited into my account. I had never made money like that before so I knew this was the right place for me.

Q: How did you get your siblings to join you?

A: It’s actually a funny story. I pushed so hard to get them to join me at my previous company but they weren’t sold on it due to the low comp, etc. When I started with FFL I actually told them that this wouldn’t be a good fit for them! They just kept watching my posts and saw how well I was doing and they really sold themselves on the opportunity and decided to get licensed.

Q: What were your siblings results when they first got started?

A: Sam got his license in only 7 days and once he made $3400 in his first week he left Wendy’s. He was making around $1600 per month with Wendy’s so that was an easy decision for him. Rangina’s first two weeks weren’t great but after her 2nd week she told me that she had made 3x the amount she made at Target and decided to also go full time.

Q: What was one of the biggest challenges that you had to overcome?

A: We had only been living in America for around 2.5 years before finding FFL so language and culture were still big barriers for us. When I was dialing people would hear my accent and immediately assume I was a telemarketer. I would just get more leads and start door-knocking in order to have them meet with me.

Q: What is your goal for 2021?

A: My goal is to have our agency issue 15 million by December, contract 10 agents per week, and have 20 new writing agents per month. Sam and Rangina want to each have 200 agents by the end of the year.

Q: What is your one piece of advice for new agents looking to get started?

A: My biggest piece of advice is that most of the things that you’ll be doing won’t make much sense to you in the beginning. You just have to keep going and never become complacent with your results. Make sure to keep going and hit that 100 appointment mark, and even though you won’t be able to help everyone you’ll see the true value of this business. Don’t make pre-mature decisions and quit based upon your early results, just keep going.

Evan Melchoir

Evan finished 2020 with $481,654 in production, and is now off to a great start in 2021 with issuing over $50,000 in January!

Q: What were you doing for work prior to getting started with FFL?

A: I was working as a wedding photographer. One of my friends who’s currently with FFL told me about the potential high income I could make so I decided to get licensed.

Q: Did you try to sell on a part time basis when you first got started?

A: Yes but I wouldn’t say that I was working a serious part time schedule. I was going out into the field around 4 times per month and making between $3,000-$5,000 per month. After around 4 months I transitioned into a full time schedule.

Q: What made you want to go full time?

A: I attended our 2020 convention in Vegas and it really made the whole thing more real. It made me look at everyone as competition and pushed me to want to produce at a higher level.

Q: How was your transition from part time to full time?

A: I think that whenever you’re trying something new there’s always a learning curve but it was relatively easy. It’s really about just making sure to work and continuing to keep yourself accountable. There were many times when I was feeling frustrated and wanted to quit but I just reached out to other agents and kept moving forward.

Q: What is your goal for 2021?

A: My personal goal is to issue $750,000 this year and get my agency to 1 million per month by the end of the year.

Q: What advice would you give to new agents who don’t have prior insurance experience?
A: First I’d say to always make sure that you’re working consistently. You also shouldn’t be afraid to invest into your success, and lastly buckle up because it can be an emotional rollercoaster and you don’t want to ride the highs and lows.

Hayden Hill

Hayden went full time with FFL in December and has already reached Senior Sales Manager status! Continue reading to learn more about his start with FFL:

Q: When did you start working with FFL?

A: I started on a super part time basis in May of 2020. I would run around 4-6 appointments during the weekend and evenings. A few months later I went full time in December.

Q: What were you doing for work prior to finding FFL?

A: I was working at a different insurance company. I was attracted to FFL for the lead availability, not being captive, great compensation plan and day one vested renewals.

Q: What did you make your first few months here when you were still part time?

A: I was issuing $6-$12,000 on a part time basis which was close to what I was making full time at my other company.

Q: Did you always plan on building a team?

A: Yes that was something that I was doing at my previous company so I was definitely interested in building under the FFL system since it has so much to offer.

Q: Are you doing cold or warm market hiring?

A: It ended up kind of working backwards because most of my first few hires came from cold market hiring. In the last couple of months people from my warm market have started reaching out to me because they see the success that Nina and I are having.

Q: How are you managing hiring along with personally producing yourself?

A: I’m just sticking to a schedule. I do the traditional Monday/Thursday office days and the rest out in the field. Whenever I have breaks between appointments I make sure to reach out to new agents. We also hired a couple of staff members which has helped a lot.

Q: What is your goal for 2021?

A: Personally I would like to hit hall of fame, and agency wise we want to be well over board member status and earn an integrity partnership by the end of the year.

Q: What is your one piece of advice for new agents looking to get started?

A: My advice is to keep it simple, plug into trainings, watch the videos, and ask questions. Don’t try to make it too complicated, the more you stick to the blueprint that’s already been laid out for you the better you’ll do.
